The Value of Legacies
In recent years, legacies have provided around 50% of our income and have supported a mixture of projects large and small:
Cattery Building
The construction of our modern cattery building greatly enhanced our ability to help Island cats in need. Each year we provide care to nearly 150 cats.
Veterinary Care
Every year we spend over £60,000 on veterinary care. Each animal receives regular checks, vaccinations and neutering, with some requiring specialist treatment and ongoing rehabilitation.
Ryde & Ventnor Shops
Legacies enabled us to purchase our shops in Ventnor and Ryde, giving us rent-free buildings with which to generate future income.
Wildlife Building
A single legacy enabled the construction of a new wildlife building, providing covered facilities to look after large waterfowl, birds and mammals.
Community Support
Our popular welfare clinics promote good animal care and provide practical support to pet owners on the Island. We also support local food banks providing vital pet food to those most in need.
Centre Running Costs
It costs £750,000 per year to run the Island Animal Centre. Legacies help pay for staff, heating, animal food and maintenance, that are essential to the running of the centre.

About Spire Wills
Spire Wills, run by John and Monica Mitchell, have provided a Will Writing service on the Island for the last 20 years. They specialise in providing basic Will packages and will visit you at home to how you wish to remember the people and causes that mean the most to you, before returning with completed documents. The complete process usually takes no longer than 21 days.
John and Monica can offer advice on storage of Will documents and their registration on the National Will Register plus Lasting Power of Attorney Documents. They are members of the Society of Will Writers and are compliant with their regulations and Code of Conduct. They are fully insured through the Societies insurance scheme.
Leaving a legacy to RSPCA Isle of Wight
We’re an independent charity (no 1211128), affiliated to the National RSPCA. If you would like your legacy to help animals on the the Isle of Wight, we suggest the following wording in your will:
“I give the sum of £____ (or specify percentage of estate) to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Isle of Wight Branch CIO Registered Charity Number 1211128 and I declare that the receipt of the honorary treasurer or other proper officer of the said Branch shall be a full and sufficient discharge for the said legacy. In the event of the aforesaid Branch shall no longer exist at the date of my death I give the legacy to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wilberforce Way Southwater Horsham RH13 9RS (registered charity number 219099) for general purposes.”
